New nephew and a birthday wish

I've been awaitin' for Jared and Lori to hurry up and get a picture on their blog so I could steal it for this post!  Not that they've had anything better to do this week than write blog posts.

On Saturday evening, the 18th of February, 2012, a perfect little boy entered the world...

Tyler George Croft

 ...weighing a hearty 5 pounds, 14 ounces, and measuring a lengthy 19.5 inches.

Just LOOK at this sweet, sweet family!

Jared and Lori, and "Baby Katie," who's not much of a baby anymore, we are so thrilled that Tyler has arrived, safe and sound.  I sure hope I get to hold him before he grows too much!  Congratulations!!

And on a side note, but absolutely, positively worth the mention (!!!), I would also like to wish my brother-in-law, Brad a very Happy Birthday, tomorrow!

Brad & Courtney - Lake Powell, Sept. 2011

The 24th is definitely a great day to have a birthday!  Trust me, Neil and I have years of experience behind us!  :)  Brad, we hope this is a memorable one for you!  You and Courtney have reached many well-deserved milestones this year, and have some awesome adventures ahead!  We can't wait to see what's in store for you both!  HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Man, I married into a great family.  Okay, thee end.

June Bride(s)

"Oh, they say when you marry in June, you're a bride, all your life."

The first person who can tell me which movie I just quoted will receive $5 from yours truly.

Speaking of June brides, I shot three weddings this month!!  Umm, yeah.  Not a common thing for me.  Before this month, I'd probably shot a total of three weddings - EVER!  Yep.  Three.  I just counted.  Strange coincidence, but how wonderful to get to double my experience and capture these special days!  I have so much more to say, particularly about event #2, but that'll have to wait until I have a few more pictures edited to accompany all my words.  :)  For now, here's a shot of each of my June brides (with their grooms).

David and Amber - 11 June 2011, 11:00am (Mount Timpanogos LDS Temple)

Dave and Kellee - 25 June 2011, 3:00pm (Dickson residence in Pleasanton, CA)

What can I say? I'm a sucker for kissy shots!

Congrats to all, and especially my sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lori and Jared, and their sweet little Katie, to whom they were sealed.

Celebrating...

Yesterday my little "sister" celebrated her 29th birthday.  I love Lori for so many reasons, and the more I spend time with and get to know her, the more I respect and adore her.  I have many memories of Lori, now going back nearly a decade (crazy!!), which I'll forever hold dear to my heart.  I am grateful to have her in my life.  Happy Birthday, Lori Jean!

{This was taken last weekend in Salt Lake right after Jared, Lori and their sweet little Katie-Bug were sealed for time and eternity. }

Another thing that makes Lori special is that she shares a birthday with my Grandma Ruth Butterfield, who would have turned ninety-two yesterday.  I wish I'd had more time in this life with my Grandma Ruth, and the time I did have with her I wish I'd cherished more, but I am so grateful for the memories I have and for my mom's, aunts', uncle and cousins' memories, many of which they've shared with me.  My mom told me that whenever there was contention in their home growing up, whether it be a sibling squabble or someone simply having a bad day, my grandma would often sit at the piano and play "Love at Home."  To this day I can hardly get through the hymn without crying.  Yesterday, in fact, we sang it in Sacrament Meeting and I was holding back the tears.  What a strong message that quiet and simple act conveyed.  And what a gift one has when she can make a point without saying a word.  My mom says she never heard her mother raise her voice.  And she never spoke an unkind word about anyone.  It's no wonder my mom is the kind woman she is, not to mention her brother, Vee, and sisters, Pat, Carolyn and Valeri.  I am grateful for the legacy my grandma left behind and I can't wait to see her again someday.  Happy Birthday, Grandma Ruth!

{From left to right: my mom, age six, Grandma Ruth, Uncle Vee, Grandpa VeLoy and Aunt Pat}

Yesterday was also Father's Day!

When I think about the men who have touched my life, my dad instantly comes to mind.  He was, after all, the first man in my life!  I love him so much.  As far back as I can remember we've been close, and I think it's safe to say we always will be.  Some of my favorite things about my dad include his warm, loving nature, his love for his family, and how giving he is of his time.  He's never in a hurry and makes you feel as though he has all the time in the world.  To me that is invaluable.  I hope my dad knows how much I admire and love him.

{1981 & 2002: two of my favorite pictures ever taken of us. They go together so perfectly.}

{This was taken at Hogle Zoo last summer.  I think if Chloe had to choose her favorite person it would be Grandpa Roy.  She loves him more than I ever thought a five-year-old was capable of loving another human being.  There's no denying that these two have a lasting bond.}

My dad-in-law, David, has also touched my life.  He has one of the kindest hearts of any man I've ever met, and values his family greatly.  While we don't get to see much of each other, I think of him often and am grateful for his love and support.  I especially love his occasional phone calls and emails where he simply tells me that he loves and appreciates me.  Those small acts of kindness mean more to me than he knows.  I really hope to get to see him within the next few months.  It's been too long!

{This was taken during our Christmas trip to Atlanta in 2005. Chloe was just five weeks old. My, how time flies...}

Even having never met Neil's dad, Grant, who passed away when Neil was six, I still love this man like a father. Neil remembers him well, and has shared with me facts about him and memories he has. Neil's mom and his aunt and uncle have also shared with me bits and pieces of his life, and I am convinced he was an incredible man. I can't wait to meet Grant one day, and in the meantime I will continue to cherish the pictures I can hold in my hand and the fond memories others have shared of their time with him on this earth.

Yesterday I was glancing through pictures of the kids I took last week during their swim lessons and happened upon this one of Neil and Ryan, which reminded me of a picture that was taken roughly 30 years ago.

{It looks like Ryan and Neil are about the same age in these pictures.  Can you believe the similarities? And what a perfect discover to make on Father's Day!}

And finally, I must honor my husband, who is amazing in so many ways. It's pretty much impossible for me to express in words my love and appreciation for Neil, so I'm not going to try. He knows how I feel. :) He is the fun and silly father I always hoped my children would have, as well as the supportive and playful husband I always hoped I would have! Chloe and Ryan love their dad so much and watching them giggle and wrestle together on the floor brings joy to my soul.

{The kids were so excited to present their Father's Day gift to Neil. And as you can see, he shared their enthusiasm.}

I hope everyone else out there had a very Happy Father's Day!

3 More Reasons to Celebrate...

There are always reasons to celebrate, right?  Here are 3 for the month of June!

#1 - my sister-in-law, Lori's birthday on the 19th, which also happens to be my Grandma Butterfield's birthday.  Lori was my first "sister", and to this day I truly consider her just that.  She has been a part of many special moments in my life, including the birth of both of my babies (no one else other than Neil can say that!).  I am grateful for the memories we've shared over the years, and for the opportunity I have had to live so close to her.  Lori is expecting a baby girl in September, and I think I just might be as excited as she is!

{Lori and Jared in front of their new home; May 2010 - do you see the baby bump?}

Lori, I hope your birthday was awesomer than awesome!  And on a side note, Happy Birthday to Jared on March 20th (yes, 3 months ago).  I am usually really good with birthdays, but this year it went right over my head.  Sorry about that, Jared dear!  We do love you, and are so happy to have you in the family.

#2 - Father's Day!  I love Father's Day.  It's such a special time to reflect on and celebrate not only the fathers, but all the important men in our lives.  I am grateful for a father who cares so much about my happiness, and who respects me and the decisions I make.  I am grateful for a father-in-law, who from day 1, has accepted and loved me as his own blood, and who picks up the phone and calls me every now and then to catch up and see how I'm doing.  I am grateful for a brother, who will someday make an incredible father, but who in the meantime is a playful, funny and loving uncle to my children.  I am grateful for my grandfathers, who have both passed on.  Each offered wisdom, humor, experience, and a certain level of love that I am forever touched by.  I am grateful for brothers-in-law and uncles, all of whom support and love me, make me laugh, and each hold special qualities that make them the unique and wonderful men that they are.

And last but not least, I am grateful for my husband, who takes care of me, and who fathers our children with unconditional love and dedication.  I would be lying if I said Neil always found fatherhood blissful.  But come on, what father really does?  Neil has countless fatherly qualities about him.  A few that stand out to me are as follows:

1)  He respects and stands beside me always.  When Chloe talks back or disrespects me in any way, Neil doesn't tolerate it.  Naturally she and Ryan need to respect us, but it is also important that they always see dad and mom respecting one another and working together as a team.  I am grateful that Neil shows love, affection and respect towards me so that our children see it and learn from their father's example.

2)  He plays with our children.  He throws them, swings them, shakes them, tickles them, and makes them laugh in a way that I cannot.  It's the moments when he's just gotten home from work and I hear the delightful giggles coming from our room because the kids are so excited to have Daddy home that they can't even wait for him to change out of his work clothes before they start tackling and loving on him, that I am grateful my children have both a father and mother.  We both have specific roles, and while I am certainly capable of wrestling with my children, it seems to come more naturally to Neil.

3)  He communicates with and teaches them valuable things.  Sometimes when Neil has just gotten after Chloe for something, and he's explaining to her why she got into trouble and why whatever it is that she did is not okay, I am overwhelmed by his ability to explain things in such a precise way that Chloe can absorb every word.  He truly has a gift for breaking things down so that what he's explaining is perfectly clear.  This has applied to me hundreds of times as well, but now that Chloe is growing to understand valuable concepts and lessons, I have grown to have an even greater appreciation for this gift of Neil's.

I love Neil's cheerful nature, and how it's rubbed off on Chloe and Ryan.  They are both such happy kids, and I know that's no accident.  I am a lucky girl to have this man and so many other wonderful men in my life.  Happy belated Father's Day to all!

And #3 - Neil's new job!  After 10 solid months of pursuing new opportunities with this company, Neil's hard work has finally paid off!  He will be working as a Spinal Sales Consultant in Stockton/Modesto, CA.  He has had his heart set on medical device sales for years now, and so this is truly a dream come true for him.  There is a lot potential for the territory he'll be covering, and if anyone knows Neil, it goes without saying that he'll get in there and make a difference fast!  He's such a go getter, and I am so so proud of him.

Unfortunately the company does not offer a relocation package for new hires.  Neil's start date is July 6th, but I won't be able to join him in California until our house sells.  We are hoping for a miracle, but with today's market, it's impossible to predict a time frame.  In the meantime, he has a room for rent waiting for him in Ripon, which is right smack between Stockon and Modesto.  I am planning to spend a good chunk of July visiting my family in UT.  Why not?  I have the time, and it'll make showing the house that much easier if we aren't around.

The month of June has been one of the craziest months of our lives.  Between receiving the job offer and making all the needed purchases/adjustments, to getting our house on the market, not to mention all the other things that life has thrown at us, we've had our work cut out for us.  Because a company car will not be provided, one of our first purchases was a new car for Neil.

A 2009 Volkswagen Jetter TDI. This baby gets 45 miles to the gallon! It's a good thing with how much time Neil will be spending in it!

I think he's happy. That makes me happy.  Man, I'm gonna miss that cute smile.  I mean, really!  Who could resist that!?

I am feeling a lot of anxiety over the unknowns of our future, but I know everything will work out just as it's supposed to. I keep telling myself that it's time to grow. It certainly is. It certainly is.

Baby Croft

Now that the cat's outta the bag, I'd like to officially congratulate Jared and Lori, who are expecting their first baby September 22nd!

Can hardly wait to see that cute belly grow, hear all the updates, and meet my little nephew. That's right - Chloe's predicting BOY, and is quite adamant! I'm not convinced she's right, but then again I was never the best baby gender predictor.

Congratulations! We love you guys!

Enjoying what's left of summer

Two Saturdays ago we spent the day with Lori, Brad and Courtney at Poudre River just outside Fort Collins. Here are some fun moments captured.

Photobucket
The water was freezing, but it didn't even phase Chloe. Must be that Andersen blood.

Photobucket
Ryan wasn't too fond of the water. Luckily there was plenty around to entertain him.

Photobucket
Apparently this butterfly liked the butterflies on Chloe's hat!

Photobucket
Notice the ring on Lori's finger! Can I get a dum dum du dum..?

Photobucket
Weeeeeeee!

Thanks for a fun Saturday, guys! It was great seeing you all. Wish we could have played longer.

Happy belated Birthday, Lori!

Special (and late) wishes to Lori Jean, who celebrated her birthday Friday, the 19th!

I still remember receiving my first birthday card from Lori back in 2002, just days before Neil and I were married. In it she expressed happiness at finally having a sister, since she'd grown up with 3 brothers! I remember feeling the exact same way, as I'd too only known life with a brother. She was so friendly and accepting even having never met me. And to this day she has never been anything but kind and giving. We have had some special moments, and I am so grateful that she is in my life.

Lori, I'm sorry this birthday wish is late. But I hope your day was wonderful. Love you lots.
